The SUV and Crossover market is as hot as it has ever been. Furthermore, the luxury SUV market is hotter than any other car segment. People want the comfort and luxurious features of luxury, but don’t want it in a sedan lifestyle. Almost every automaker makes at least one excellent luxury SUV, with many actually making several choice vehicles.

This article is going to look at some of the most popular and best luxury SUVs available on the market today. They can range from the smaller subcompact luxury SUVs up to gigantic full sized three row SUVs that can haul 8 people and everything they could ever want. The feeling you get driving a luxury SUV is something that can’t be matched by other vehicles.

1 - Lexus RX

This is one of the most popular luxury vehicles in all of America. It’s a midsize SUV that seats up to 7 people in a pinch. All wheel drive is of course standard and the 3.5 liter V6 that comes standard is fairly impressive. For people who are worried about their bottom line, there is also a gas-electric hybrid option which can reduce your commuting fuel consumption quite quickly.

2 - Volvo XC 60

This is a smaller compact SUV but is loaded with a surprising amount of luxury. In addition to that, it’s also stylish and the interior is very well designed. There’s more than a few powertrain options and all provide excellent power. Also, always remember that it’s a Volvo. That means that there’s going to be all kinds of safety features available. Unlike some others on this list, the XC60 sticks to two rows for passengers, but it does so beautifully.

3 - BMW X5

The entire BMW X line tends to be incredible pieces of machinery and the X5 is the sterling example of the entire line. While some of the BMW sedans have lost their sporting heritage a little bit, the SUVs seem to have picked up everything they have dropped and are running with it! The X5 manages to balance this sportiness with elegance and luxury perfectly. For people looking to move to future fuels, a plug-in hybrid is available as well, which features excellent range.

4 - Lincoln Navigator

Finally, we are talking about a true full size SUV with the Lincoln Navigator. Three rows means it’s easy to find 7 or 8 (depending on trim choices) people inside with room to spare. Base trim gives it a beefy 3.5 Liter turbocharged V6. This allows it to put out an impressive 450 horsepower. Admittedly it’s all needed. The Navigator is a monster and it needs every one of those horses to push it around. While it may not match the sportiness of an SUV like the BMW X5, it wins when it comes to comfort and interior quality.

5 - Land Rover Defender

While Land Rover is known for putting out some of the world’s best off-road vehicles, the Defender is just as adept on the pavement. Unlike some larger models, the base Defender has a turbo inline 4 cylinder that puts out just under 300 horsepower in the base model. It does however have a really nice option 3.0 liter inline 6 that puts out almost 400 horsepower and all the torque you could desire. This gives you an acceleration that you’d never expect out of a Land Rover.
